Dining Out During COVID
One of the things I have missed most during COVID and being sheltered at home has been dining out. It was a way of seeing my friends and socializing. When my family came to visit, trying new restaurants or visiting old faves was a big part of our plans. Or those times after a long day, it was a way of unwinding. Instead of making dinner, saying, "let's go out to eat" as a treat.
With COVID, all that has changed. Everything closed down, including our beloved restaurants. Othe

Entrances Are Everything
Today we're all about entrances and how energy enters and flows through your home.
It is how the life force or "chi" energy enters your space and supports you and your life -- this is critical. We only want alive, healthy energy flowing into and through our homes. In the same way, air needs to enter your body through your mouth; air needs to enter your space through your door.
The most important thing about entrances is to make sure your entryways, doorways, and hallways ar

Your Bedroom
Today we're all about bedrooms. As I get up early to write this letter, I laugh at myself. Even though I know the importance of bedrooms and getting sleep in Feng Shui, I am an early bird and like the mornings for inspiration and creativity, and average about 6 hours of sleep a night. The good news is with all the sleep research, naps count, and I love my bed!
In Feng Shui, we say health is everything, and one of the most important things is getting a good night's sleep. Get

From Spring to Summer
Today we're all about transitioning from Spring to Summer.
This past weekend was the official change from Spring to Summer, the Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest in the Southern Hemisphere. These are the simple facts. For me, it is also a feeling -- the warmth of the summer, the freshness of the air with a slight breeze, the desire to be outside again, and not want to come even after the sun sets. After being homeb

Bringing in Green
Today we're talking about the color Green.
When I was a kid I used to love lying in the grass and looking up at the trees. Or sitting outside and admiring trees, bushes, and grass, and seeing all the many shades of green. If you think about it, green is everywhere. Not only is it an important color, but it is also an important element and energy in our environment. It goes with everything — just look at beautiful flowers on the ground or in a bouquet, there is always green —

Taking a Pause
Today I was going to talk about looking at the living room, and family time together. We all have been homebound, often with our extended families, for almost three months -- some maybe more -- and the mandate to stay home is being lifted by state, region, and city. And slowly or not so slowly, people are coming out of their homes and being together in ways that have not been possible for quite some time. And one of the ways has been in protest. Today, however, I want to pau

Honoring and Celebrating Life
Today we're all about honoring and celebrating life. Yesterday in the US it was the Memorial Day holiday, honoring those who served in the armed forces and lost their lives serving our country. I remember, as a kid, there was always a parade with marching bands and looking for my brothers who marched with the cub scouts. It is also considered the unofficial start of summer. I remember it signaling school would soon be out for vacation. And since it's right around my birthday,

What Does It Mean When Black Smoke is Coming From the Chimney?
Today we're all about fixing things. It's not what people usually think about when they hear "Feng Shui," but at its core, Feng Shui is very practical. It is essential to have everything working correctly--plumbing, electricity, heat, stove, appliance, and lighting. Two weekends ago, my husband and I planted our first flowers, herbs, and vegetables, spruced up our terrace and patio furniture. We decided it was the perfect evening to have dinner outside. Chicken on the grill,

Celebrating Our Mothers
Home is where the heart is. People write songs about it. People say it so often it has become a cliche. And yet there is always truth in cliches. What does it really mean? When I think of home, it can mean many things. And it means many things to many people. For each person, it is unique, but it usually includes certain things like where we eat, where we sleep, where we gather together. Where you live is your home, and this is where life happens. It is the center, so no matt
